negative pressure system for reducing infections in patient rooms
negative air pressure system to reduce infections in hospital rooms
The Inno4COV-19 Evaluation Committee has favorably evaluated the application of the VIRTUOSO project, so NICFA will receive European funding for the study and implementation of this project.
The main objective of VIRTUOSO is to reduce the number of SARS-CoV-2 infections due to nosocomial transmission and consequently reduce the number of healthcare workers affected by COVID-19.
To achieve this goal, VIRTUOSO aims to develop a ventilation system for the isolation of hospital rooms housing contagious patients.
Complete isolation of the contaminated environment can be scientifically achieved by depressurizing it and thus obtaining a lower pressure inside than outside the hospital room.
• NICFA EVS ventilation unit, with absolute filters both on intake and supply, which draws in and filters the air from the room, maintaining negative pressure;
• NICFA NodeIO control unit with: integrated management software, door opening control sensor, fan speed control, and corridor indicator lights;
• NICFA Touch HMI, which displays system parameters and allows system control/settings after entering a security code;
• Air intake for each bed in the patient room.
• An air blade above the door, powered by filtered recirculated air, which creates a barrier to limit the escape of infectious air. It also allows VIRTUOSO to detect pressure drops when the door is open and modulates the air exchange rate
